Question: What signifiants do athletes play in finical success of the university
Before reading: Before I read this article my thoughts about this was how finically impactful athletics is to the university. For example if the college as a good football or baseball program that in itself not only brings monetary value to the school but as well as recognition nationally. There is no doubt that there is finical gains that universities make from the success of their collegiate athletes.
Step 2:
Summarize: The success of collegiate athletes overall effects the finical success of the university. To be more precise of what sports bring in the most revenue it would be football and basketball. If those two sports programs are successful a large amount of revenue from external private forces like individuals, corporations, and foundations are what the universities depend on. Collegiate athletes are some what the shinning star or the connection between the universities and the relationship with the external forces that provide cash flow to the school. Athletic programs gain media attention which in turn brings in more money to the school whether that attention is good or bad. With that being said external forces also have a lot of say in choices made by the universities. For example the SEC has a say in what Mizzou does with its athletic programs.
Think: This source might have completely changed my question overall because of how much it dives into how the success of collegiate athletes effect an academic institution. At the same time I am not sure if I want to change my subject completely or try to fit this source some where in my paper as one of the major topics to discuss in my paper. At the beginning of this whole process I didn't think about how much collegiate athletes effect the finical success of a university. I agree that external forces do have a lot of say in what the academic institution does based upon how successful the athletic programs are at that institution. This reveals a part of the significance of collegiate athletes to the university.
Synthesize: This source kind of merges my other two sources at the same time brings to light another topic that is very important to discuss in my paper. I could discuss how the academic institution supports it athletes on and off the field based upon how successful they are able to bring more attention and revenue into the institution.
Question and Plan: What do external private sources dictate or control that effect student-athletes? How is this private revenue being spent on the collegiate athletes? Are academic programs to help the student-athletes being erected or is the money going somewhere else? Something that needs to still be answered is what kind of model is being used to support student-athletes?
